A tale of sunsets

People who visit my Facebook profile on a regular basis will obviously know that I am just obsessed with Sunsets. "I love Sunsets" is a mere understatement. All I need is a camera and nature with its many hues and I go click, click.

I wanted to post something about Sunsets, so here I am.  I have selected 10 photographs which were all clicked by me, some in Kolkata and some outside, while on vacations.

Hope you all like it!

We keep this love in a photograph
We made these memories for ourselves
Where our eyes are never closing
Hearts are never broken
Times forever frozen still

Chicken in Barbecue Sauce

I somehow love cooking chicken because of the various kinds of experiments you can do with it. Add something or the other and you will get a different taste each time. When I started blogging, I always knew that a major component of my blog would be about food and recipes because I love to cook. At the same time, I realized that it is imperative for me to cook so that my Blog can continue.

This particular recipe is from http://food.ndtv.com which really has some good recipes. This website was suggested by a colleague of mine and I am really very glad that I found it.

My heart wanted to experiment with chicken again. So this is the recipe which I wanted to make. It was supposed to be made in a microwave but I made it in the traditional way. I always have to make my own modifications. It's so so compulsory!

The only thing that needs to be kept in mind while making this is the tangy flavor. This recipe uses a variety of sauces so be a little careful. Mine was very tangy so I learnt my lesson.

Here comes the recipe:

Ingredients:

Chicken - 500 gms.
Vinegar - 1 cup.
Lemon - 2.

Ginger-Garlic paste - 200 gms.
Onions - 200 gms, finely chopped.
Tomato Puree - 100 ml.
Soya Sauce -  2 teaspoons.
Tobasco Sauce - 2 teaspoons.
Mustard Paste - 2 teaspoons.
Black Pepper powder - Half a teaspoon.
Red Wine - 1 cup.
Salt to taste.
Oil- 5 tablespoons.

Procedure:

Marinate the chicken with ginger-garlic paste, vinegar, lemon juice and salt. Keep it aside for 3 hours.

In a wok, heat oil.

Add the onions and fry till translucent.

Add the tomato puree and fry it for another 5 mins.

Add the soya sauce, black pepper powder and the mustard paste.

Add the marinated chicken. Cook till the chicken is boiled.

Now add the red wine.

Add the tobasco sauce.

Serve hot!

One Love - One Direction

"I know that in the morning now, I'll see us in the light upon a hill
Although I am broken my heart is untamed still"

One Direction - Story Of My Life

Music is the first love of my life. I listen to music when I am bored, when I am sad or happy, when I have a hell lot of things to do or when I have just nothing to do.I listen to almost all genres of music. Off late, my taste in music has got totally transformed. I won't be able to tell whether it grew better or worse.

When I talk about transformation in my taste of music, the first name that comes to my mind would be "One Direction". It's an English-Irish pop boy band based in London. the band comprises of four people currently, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and none other than Harry Styles. For me, Zayn Malik is still a part of the band though he has officially left the band in March,2015.  This fact is just so hard for me to believe that I choose to disbelieve it.

While you're reading this, you might wonder that what is so special about this write-up on
"One Direction"? You can read all about it on Wikipedia. Well let me tell you that this write-up is all about a band which is an indelible part of my life and it's a band which has transformed my taste in music to a greater extent. It's all about "Fangirling!'

I first heard a "One Direction"song in the summers of 2012 when my brother asked me to listen to a boy band which has just started their journey. I remember listening to "What makes you beautiful" from their debut studio album, "Up All Night" which released in 2011. Being a ardent admirer of the band, I believe that this song made "One Direction" what it is today. This song still feels fresh as a daisy.

Their second debut album, "Take Me Home"  was also very successful. "Live While We're Young"  being my all-time favorite. But when I talk about  "One Direction" albums,my most favorite album would be "Midnight Memories", their third studio album which released in 2013.This album etched the name of "One Direction" in my heart, mind and soul forever. There are 3 songs that are worth mentioning here, "Best Song Ever""Midnight Memories" and "Story of My Life".

After "Midnight Memories", it was their fourth and latest album, "Four" which had songs like "Steal my girl" and "Night Changes". I love the song  "Steal my girl". I find the title "Four" very ironical as their album was named "Four" because this was their fourth studio album. Soon after the album was released, the band became a four-member band following the departure of Zayn Malik. So sad!

While I talk about "One Direction's" albums, one thing that is worth mentioning here is their concert movie, "This Is Us" which was a 3D documentary and concert film about the boy-band. The film was a major box-office success.

When I talk about " One Direction", I have to talk about their success which is nothing less of a fairy tale. From "X-Factor" in 2010 to numerous awards to the second-wealthiest musicians in the UK under 30 years of age, they have been there and done that.

For me, this band is not just another band that I am gonna listen to and then forget it after few years. I am a dedicated "One Directioner" till the end of time. One just can't compare it with some other bands which faded into oblivion after few years. I love their songs because they give me a fresh lease of life. I love their lyrics because it's heart-felt. I love their melody because it makes me feel young. One word for " One Direction" is that they are beyosome.

If one asks me, what does "One Direction" means to you, I'd say that they are people who make music that work wonders for me. Their songs make me happy and sometimes sad too. I like them not only because I am a fan of popular music but I like " One Direction" because they make music which I can completely relate to. To cut the long story short, I simply love them. I can simply go on and on, gushing about them.

25th March,2015 was a sad day for us,the "One Directioners". Zayn Malik officially left the band. There are so many stories as to why he actually left, the most common one being that he wanted a solo career and a life outside "One Direction". Zayn Malik  was the most popular face of the band after Harry Styles. I still can't figure out how I'd have reacted if Harry Styles left the band. I would've stopped listening to them. Simple! It is very common for band members to pursue a solo career. Singers who left their bands have rarely been successful in their solo careers. An exception to this rule is Justin Timberlake who is as successful in his solo career as he was when he was a part of the boy-band "N-Sync". Only time can tell us whether Zayn Malik will be lucky like Justin Timberlake or not. Another question that only time can answer is that whether "One Direction" will continue with their success story without Zayn Malik or this band will split like other boy bands. If they do, the music world will suffer a terrible loss and I,as their ardent admirer will stop listening to boy bands for the rest of my life.

Nowhere

And here I sit somewhere in the middle of nowhere,
And think about the life that I have lived.
Was it incomplete or was it fulfilled?
I am yet to find that out.
I know that time has slipped by but I have memories to cherish,
It's indeed a journey that's remains a lot unexplored!

Chocolate Mousse

Who doesn't love Chocolate? I mean, I do and that too a lot! If you have a sweet tooth, this recipe is for you. It's easy and tastes really good. I came across this recipe in Wikihow. The original recipe was that of a chocolate truffle, however due to some reason or the other, could not make the truffle (it didn't freeze properly), I ended up making the mousse.

The modification of this recipe from the original one is that, I added a little bit of coffee in it for the flavor. You can add any other flavor as well. Be it rum or some fruit essence. I am sure it won't taste bad.I also added milk powder for extra taste.

Here comes the recipe:

Ingredients:

Cadbury Silk - 2 medium bars
Butter - 100 gms
Sugar - 4 tablespoons
Full cream - 400 ml
Coffee - 1 small packet
Milk powder - 1 cup
Cadbury Gems - 1 packet (for decoration)

Procedure:

The first thing that needs to be kept in mind while making anything out of chocolate is that, it gets burnt easily so you have to take extra precaution while making anything that has chocolate in it. Cook it in low flame, use a double boiler, stir it continuously and never leave it unattended.

Break the chocolates. Keep it aside.
Place a medium cooking pan in a high heat and pour around 1 liter of water. Bring the water to a simmer.
Place the small cooking pan into the medium one (containing the water). Try to keep the bottom of the small pot from touching the water in the big pot.
Put the chocolates into the small cooking pan. Let it melt. This should take approximately 10 mins. Keep the gas burner in low flame (always).Keep stirring continuously.
Add the cream and butter, let the mixture simmer in low flame till the butter is melt and the cream is fully mixed. Keep stirring continuously.
Now add the coffee and the milk powder. Be careful so that a lump is not formed by stirring it continuously. Make sure that the mixture is smooth. An air bubble is fine but a lump in a mousse is a strict no-no.
You can add sugar now, only if you want your mousse to be a little more sweet. If not, you can easily skip the step
Keep stirring the mixture till it's smooth and no lumps are there.
Cool it to room temperature.
Decorate it the way you like it. I used the good old Gems.
Refrigerate it for at least 6 hours.

The chocolate mousse is now, yours!

Your name

Your name speaks magic in my ears.
I fell in love with you, on a dark and windy day.
When life was rough and the paths blurred.
You came as a hope. You came as love.

I have you in my heart as a hidden poem.
A poem that I'll take to my grave.
I have you in my mind as a secret dream.
A dream that will never get fulfilled.

I want you to be a part of my life,
So what if it's just a hope or a dream.
If these words ever had any meaning,
You will know how much I love you!

Disillusioned

Festivities and lights all around,
In a corner, stands a little girl waiting to grow up.
Nothing to gain but everything to loose.
A little afraid but a lot hopeful.
Never did she realize that times have changed and now she is all grown up.
And her life has come to a full circle.
Nothing to lose but everything to gain,
Now all she wants is a little happiness and a good life ahead!

My first poem

My mind wandered a million miles,
I have been here before.
Bright sunshine and happy times,
But now the faces seem unknown and the times are dark.
Perplexed, I looked at my reflection only to see a face that I couldn't recognize.
My mind doesn't wander anymore,
It has succumbed to her harsh reality.

Fish with raw mangoes

I am a Bong and I love fish! Sounds clichéd? It seriously doesn't matter! Fish is synonymous for the word "Bengali" since the evolution of time. It is also considered auspicious when it comes marriages. The first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word "Bengali" is that they are glorious and proud fish-eaters. The high availability of various kinds of fish is due to the fresh water rivers of the Ganges Delta. I am always full of happiness when it comes to fish.

Just like I previously said that I like pickles with a little bit of South-Indian touch, I am also very fond of foods that have Curry leaves in it. The sight and smell of it in any food just makes me feel great. Raw mangoes on the other hand are widely available during the summer months due to which it is often used in various summer recipes. It comes cheap and adds a great taste to anything that it is added to. I got hold of this specific recipe in a mobile app. It was supposed to made with raw fish and coconut oil (This is again a South-Indian recipe) but I modified it by frying it a little bit.

Here comes the recipe:

Ingredients:

Rohu fish - 500 gms.
Mustard seeds (black) - few.

Curry leaves - a bunch.
Dry chillies - 4.
Raw Mango - 1,finely chopped.
Turmeric powder - One teaspoon.
Red chilli powder - One teaspoon.
Coriander powder - One teaspoon.
Onions - 100 gms, finely chopped.
Green chillies - 2-3,finely chopped.
Ginger-Garlic paste - 100 gms.

Salt to taste.
Oil- 4 tablespoons.

Procedure:

Deep fry the fish. Keep it aside.

In a wok, heat oil.
Add the dry chilli, mustard seeds and the curry leaves.
Add chopped onions, fry till it turns translucent.
Then add the ginger-garlic paste, chopped green chillies and raw mangoes.
After frying it for some time,  add the turneric, red chilli and coriander powder.
Add salt and some water for the gravy.
Let the gravy come to a boil.
Add the fried pieces of fish and let it cook for 5 minutes in medium flame.
Serve hot with rice.

Happy Eating!
